On December 30, 2013, Father Lawrence Raj, well-known as the renovator and parish priest of Annai Velankanni Shrine Besant Nagar and the Underground Tomb Chapel of St. Thomas Basilica Chennai, laid the foundation stone for VCare’s Social Service Centre and Old-age home.
The Old Age home offers hundred percent free of cost medical treatment to the uncared-for and those suffering in impoverished living conditions.
The current facility has the capacity to hold 11 inmates.
Organically grown plants have been cultivated around the building to offer the inmates a serene and fresh air ambience to walk around, relax and forget their worries.
Medicinal Herbs such as Keela Nelli, Tulasi, Siriyanangai, Periyanangai, Nilavembu, Malai Vembu, Sothu Kathalai and various types of greens are cultivated and used for preparing Kashayam (Herbal juice) for the seniors.
Shalini Alamma Joseph – Resident Nurse from PHC — has been given the responsibility of offering Medical Checkups for the seniors and taking them to hospital for treatment.
A special feature of the Old Age Home is that it offers Disabled-friendly accommodation for the inmates.
The home also offers an option wherein any inmate can approve the implementation of last rites by signing an agreement, saying there is no relative to fulfill the duty.
One of the future plans is to set up a Cottage style Ashram and to increase the capacity from 11 to 50 inmates. The required land for the proposed construction has already been allotted.
There is also a proposal to purchase a vehicle for the transportation of inmates to hospitals and other places of need.
Free Guest House:
VCare inaugurated its Social work related services in 2014 — the centenary year of Origanti Francis Reddy (Born: 19th June, 1913).
The Origanti Francis Reddy Centenary Guest house was also opened at Thachur (his birthplace).
The Guest House is a free of cost facility to offer accommodation to natives returning to their land from nearby cities to enjoy their holidays and special occasions.
